Detoxing Your Makeup Routine

If you are anything like me, you’ve really pulled back on wearing makeup during the pandemic. Now with things starting to reopen (and the moviestars getting “done up” this week for the Oscars), I’m finding myself wanting to get dressed up again - including a little makeup. Since it’s a good time to toss out those expired products anyway, why not upgrade your products at the same time? It seems every cosmetic brand these days is touting cleaner ingredients (some honestly, others less so.) I personally have a hard time finding the right makeup and skincare because it not only has to be toxin free, but I am pretty sensitive to grains and need to find products that are gluten free and ideally free of cornstarch, which many natural products lean on.

Just like skincare, it’s important to avoid the Dirty 10 ingredients in your makeup to keep your body from taking in excess stress and toxins. And just like when I changed my skincare routine, I found a lot of trial and mostly error with more natural makeup products. I’m sharing my favorites here to save you the struggle:

Lips

BeautyCounter Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick: This is hands-down my favorite lipstick EVER! It glides on so nicely, offers a nice pop of color and leaves my lips feeling better than before I applied it. I enjoy reapplying it, but I never have that dried out “need” to reapply with this lipstick. The Lily shade is the perfect daytime choice for almost any complexion. I also wear Orchid when I want a stronger color.

BeautyCounter Color Intense Lipstick: For richer color, like nightime, this is my go-to. The Girls Night Classic Red is absolute perfection. I also like Little Black Dress.

EYES

Jones Road The Mascara: This mascara is the high-drama, lash-lengthening, clean mascara of my dreams. It stays put and washes off well. The wand is perfectly curved. My only complaint is that is seems to clump quickly, but I love it so much I don’t even care. I use this on days when I want to feel dressed up. It makes me feel like I’m wearing extensions.

BeautyCounter Think Big All-in-One Mascara: This mascara looks like you aren’t wearing any. No clumps, stays put and brings definition to each lash. It’s a no drama mascara and washes off easily. I use this on video call days.

Jones Road The Best Eye Shadow: It really is the best. It’s basically the awesome quality that Bobbi Brown used to be (when she ran the company) and now this is her new cleaner version. I love the combo of Cream and So Pretty shades for a day to night look. The shadows build up and layer very well.

Jones Road Just a Sec (Eye Shadow Cream): These little pots of goodness are such a great quick hit for your beauty routine. Super easy to apply, stays put all day and doesn’t crease. I absolutely love the Pewter shade, but I could honestly buy them all! If you wear just this with a little mascara and lipstick, you’ll feel like a million dollars in about 90 seconds.

Jones Road The Best Pencil: Absolutely perfect eyeliner pencil. Stays sharp for a clean line and goes on smooth at room temperature (many natural products seem to pull at my eye or need to be heated in order to glide. This one is perfect!)

Jones Road The Brow Pencil: I love this thing. It’s f-ing perfect.

Face

Jones Road The Face Pencil: This thing is like a magic eraser for your dark circles or blemishes. I wear it often without any other makeup. It blends easily and doesn’t leave that cakey look that so many concealers do.

BeautyCounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer: I don’t wear face makeup often, except for very fancy occasions or photos. For me, it’s got to be a natural-looking dewy finish and of course great tone matching. BeautyCounter has a very inclusive skintone range, which I just love. This product goes on like a dream and lasts pretty well throughout the day. It also has SPF, which I love for a two in one hit. If you are more of a matte kind of person, try the Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation (which has even more skin tones to choose from).

Full disclosure: I fell so in love with these products that I became a BeautyCounter consultant for the discounts. I don’t really do much selling, but if you are so inclined you can find these products on my page. As with all proceeds from affiliate links on this site, this helps support my expenses. Thank you!

Jones Road is not sponsored or affiliated in any way. I just love the products.
